MUMBAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded the sacking of Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari not only for his intemperate language towards chief minister Uddhav Thackeray but for also putting the state’s population in jeopardy by demanding opening of temples during the pandemic.
Narsayya Adam, state secretary CPM said the governor appears to be dabbling in politics, pointing out that the BJP on cue has come out on the streets, demanding opening of the places of worship.
“This is nothing but inciting a section of the population and throwing to the winds the caution required to contain the deadly pandemic. The CPM is constrained to say that the governor has become a menace to the public health of Maharashtra, the governor therefore needs to be relieved of the constitutional responsibility placed on him, which he is unable to carry with grace. The CPM appeals to the President of India to forthwith relieve him of his responsibility, which he is sure to go on demeaning," he said in a press statement.
Adam said the Maharashtra government has in some earnest tried to contain the pandemic. "The governor’s uncalled for advice is sure to exacerbate the delicately poised health situation in the state. Apart from this, the governor has undermined the constitutional office he himself holds by ridiculing the mainstay of the secular democratic order as enshrined in the constitution. His mischievous advice and uncultured language greatly diminishes the gubernatorial constitutional position he holds. Unfortunately, by resorting to unseemly political shenanigans the governor has put the President of our great country in a difficult dilemma. This in itself is a strong ground on which the governor of Maharashtra should be sacked forthwith and sent out of the state, lock, stock and barrel," said Adam.
