UP: Woman burnt alive for dowry demand in Etah

Etah, Oct 14 (UNI) A woman was killed after being set ablaze by her in-laws for failing to fulfill their dowry demands in the Jasrathpur area here, police said on Wednesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sunil Kumar Singh said that before her death, the woman had accused six people including her husband and in-laws of burning her alive.
Based on a written complaint furnished by the deceased's father Satypal, all six have been booked under IPC Sections 498 A, 304 B and 3/4 of the Dowry Act in the Jasrathpur police station. All the accused in-laws are absconding and police are on the lookout for them.
Meenu (23) had got married to Sudesh Singh, a resident of the Badhapur village in the Jasrathpur area, last year. The woman's father gave them dowry during the marriage but the groom and his family were allegedly unsatisfied over the amount and were consistently demanding Rs 40,000 and a motorcycle from Mr Satyapal.
The woman was allegedly beaten up many times over the dowry demand earlier as well. Mr Satyapal has alleged that the in-laws kept demanding additional dowry and torturing Meenu for the same.
It has been alleged that Meenu's husband Sudesh Kumar, mother-in-law Radha Devi, father-in-law Bhamar Pal Singh, sister-in-law Lakshmi, brother-in-law Shiv Kumar and his wife Beena Devi set Meenu ablaze on Tuesday. This statement was made by the victim in a video before she lost her breath in her dying declaration.
She has also mentioned that she tried to escape but was beaten up and then set ablaze. Her in-laws fled from the spot after the incident.
Meenu was rushed to a hospital in Aliganj by people present nearby but the doctors referred her to the district hospital. However, the critically burnt victim died on her way to the hospital.
