Woman tries to immolate self in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old woman poured kerosene before setting herself on fire near gate number 2 of BJP headquarters on Vidhan Sabha Marg in Hazratganj on Tuesday. An alert constable nabbed and saved her. But she suffered serious burns and is currently admitted to civil hospital.
Lucknow Police said that preliminary inquiry has revealed that she was being harassed by her in-laws in Maharajganj. The statement of the woman was yet to be recorded by the police.
When TOI spoke to SP Maharajganj, Pradeep Gupta said that the woman originally hailed from Palamau district of Jharkhand.
"The woman was a hindu but after divorce she married a man from another religion in Maharajganj district," said Gupta.
Gupta also clarified that no information was given to him by the victim about reaching Lucknow to immolate self.
Similarly, Lucknow deputy commissioner of Police, Central, Somen Barma also said that no information was given to the police about her immolation bid.
Interestingly, the one minute 36 seconds video which went viral also shows that a sub-inspector runs away after the woman sets self afire, while a constable douses the fire.
