NAVI MUMBAI: The proposed expansion of the MIDC common effluent treatment plant (CETP) at Taloja has been delayed by six months. The 5 MLD expansion work was to be completed by May 2020, but will now be completed in November. Shortage of technical staff, workers and delay in arrival of equipment has led to the delay.
The existing capacity of CETP, 22.5 MLD, is operational. It is to be expanded with 5 MLD more, to have a 27.5 MLD capacity. Due to Covid, the work had been on hold since March.
MIDC area has 240 effluent generating units. After mismanagement by the CETP board, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) had taken over the CETP on November 1, 2018. MIDC assistant engineer Anand Gogate said technical staff and workers have resumed work now.
Taloja, Kharghar, Kalamboli and Kamothe residents red-flagged the discharge of effluents into Taloja creek. The discharge is polluting both air and water, they alleged.
