A day after reporting 7,089 COVID-19 cases, the state has added 8,522 new infections, taking the total tally to 15,43,837. With 187 deaths, the cumulative toll went up to 40,701, a health official said. A total of 15,356 patients were discharged after treatment in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 12,97,252. The state is now left with 2,05,415 active cases.
With 1,325 new cases, Mumbai city’s tally rose to 2,32,391, while the fatality count increased by 38 to 9,507, the health department said. The Mumbai division, which consists of Mumbai city and its satellite towns, added 2,660 new infections, raising the total count to 5,35,214. A total of 17,060 people have died so far in the region, the health official said.
Pune city added 490 cases, raising its tally to 1,65,839, while 13 deaths took cumulative toll to 3,749. The number of cases in the Pune division stood at 4,01,395 and deaths at 8,848 as on Tuesday.

At least 54 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while four died of the infection in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Wednesday, an official said. With the latest addition in cases and casualties, the tally in the district reached 15,118 and the toll rose to 339, the official said.
On a positive note, 133 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries to 13,450, he said, adding that the recovery rate in the region stands at 88.97 per cent.
The district currently has 1,329 active cases, which includes 631 patients at COVID-19 hospital, nine undergoing treatment in Nagpur and 689 in home isolation.
Over 10.15 lakh persons have been tested for coronavirus so far in Maharashtra's Thane district, of which more than 8 lakh tested negative for the infection, an official said on Wednesday.
With the addition of 959 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the count of infections in the district reached 1.94 lakh, the official said. Apart from this, 39 patients died of the infection, raising the toll to 4,913, he said.
The district has recorded a recovery rate of 89.96 per cent, while mortality rate stood at 2.53 per cent, he said, adding that the district currently has 14,548 active cases. Of the cases recorded so far, Kalyan alone accounted for 46,612 cases, followed by Thane with 41,406 and Navi Mumbai with 40,827 cases, the official said. Meanwhile, Palghar district has recorded 38,170 cases and 765 casualties so far, he said.
Starting Wednesday, Mumbai Police along with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will penalise people violating face mask norms in public areas.
In a review meeting Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner I S Chahal asked civic officials to initiate a joint action with the Mumbai Police and intensify the campaign in the 24 wards, against those not wearing masks.
Officials from the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department were given the additional task of penalising those violating mandatory mask rule, but now all 24 administrative wards in the city have appointed agencies to work with the police in taking action.

COVID-19 patients and voters above the age of 80 will be given a postal ballot facility for the Maharashtra legislative council's graduates constituency election in Marathwada. While the date of the election is yet to be announced, the district administration has come up with guidelines for voting. Use of masks and social distancing will be mandatory at polling booths, Aurangabad district collector Sunil Chavan said in a meeting with representatives of political parties on Monday. A list of voting centres has been published and people are requested to raise objections if any, over them. (PTI)
The number of coronavirus cases in Aurangabad district rose to 35,442 after 11 more people tested positive for the virus, PTI quoted an official as saying. With two more deaths, the death toll rose to 1,001.
At present, there are 2,776 active Covid-19 cases in the district, while 31,665 people have beendischarged after recovery, the official said.
The Covid-19 recovery rate in the district is 87.38 per cent while the fatality rate is 2.7 per cent, he said.
