Three notorious drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in Budgam

Srinagar, Oct 13 (UNI) Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in central Kashmir district of Budgam.

A police spokesperson said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at Chadoora in Budgam. “Police intercepted three persons and the checkpoint and during their checking recovered 100 grams of Charas and 12 bottles of codeine phosphate from them,” he said.

He said the accused -- identified as Amir Ahmad Ganie, Tawfeeq Ahmad Yatoo and Javaid Iqbal Jan -- were immediately taken into custody.

“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Magam and Police Station Chadoora respectively and investigation has been initiated,” he said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
