Total Covid cases in Kerala closer to 3 lakh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The total Covid-19 cases reported in the state are nearing three lakhs. With on Monday, the total has reached 2,95,132. The state has so far tested 36.28 lakh people. While there are 94,388 active cases, 1,99,634 have recovered to date. On Monday, 7,836 recoveries were reported.
Among the new cases, 5,157 contracted the virus through contacts while sources of 195 are unknown, besides 195 healthcare workers were also infected. The state has 658 people in ICUs and 176 on ventilator support.
The toll in the state has reached 1,026 with 22 more deaths in the day. The deceased are Rajan (45), Maya (40), Raveendran (48), Omana (65) and Krishnan (89) from Thiruvananthapuram, Panirselvam (58) from Thiruchendur (TN), Lawrence (62) from Kollam, Khadeeja Beevi (85) and Suresh Kumar (53) from Alappuzha; Khadeeja Rashid (51), Pareed (45) and Ayyappan (82) from Ernakulam, Shaji Thomas (57) from Idukki; Pallima (93), Ummerkoya (63) and Moidu (65) from Kozhikode, and Sujatha (61), Sahadevan (64), Moideen (74), Abbas (60), P P Khadeeja (85) & Kunjiraman (83) from Kannur.
Kozhikode tested the most positive cases in the day at 869 followed by Malappuram 740, Thrissur 697, Thiruvananthapuram 629, Alappuzha 618, Ernakulam 480, Kottayam 382, Kollam 343, Kasargod 295, Palakkad 288, Kannur 274, Pathanamthitta 186, Idukki 94 and Wayanad 35.
The district-wise number of contact cases reported in the day are Kozhikode 796, Malappuram 584, Thrissur 620, Thiruvananthapuram 415, Alappuzha 465, Ernakulam 378, Kottayam 320, Kollam 315, Kasaragod 246, Palakkad 203, Kannur 224, Pathanamthitta 108, Idukki 64 and Wayanad 29.
Among healthcare workers who were infected on Monday, Thiruvananthapuram reported 76 cases followed by Ernakulam 23, Thrissur 19, Kottayam 17, Kannur 13, Palakkad & Kozhikode 10 each, Malappuram and Kasaragod 7 each, Alappuzha 5, Kollam & Idukki 3 each, and Pathanamthitta 2. There are 2,81,413 under observation in various districts, including 2,53,104 under home or institutional quarantine, and 28,309 in hospitals. On Monday, 3,075 were admitted to the hospitals. In 24 hours, 38,259 samples were tested.
