BJP 'rings bells' as Guv Koshyari, CM Uddhav bicker on reopening of temples

Thane, Oct 13 (UNI) As the Maharashtra Governor and the CM engaged in a war of words over reopening of temples shut due to the COVID-19 crisis, the BJP here on Tuesday resorted to a high-pitched 'bell ringing' agitation and symbolic fasting in same regards.
As part of the statewide agitation, the activists of the saffron party gathered at the historic Ghantali temple and rang bells while carrying a huge banner which said in Marathi that temples are closed whilst bars have been opened.
The prominent party leaders, including Niranjan Davkhare and MLA Sanjay Kelkar, among other leaders.
On Monday, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari penned a strong-worded letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray and asserted that the temples have been reopened in other states.
He further highlighted that several activities in the state have been permitted under the 'Mission Begin Again' but the temples continue to remain shut.
"Is it because the CM has suddenly turned "secular", the term hated by you," the Governor tersely remarked, adding that several organizations and groups have made representations to him asking for reopening of the temples.
Matching to the Governor Koshyari's tone, CM Uddhav first hit out at the letter saying that it's written in English, second he asserted that he doesn't need anyone to certify his Hinduism.
Third, the CM questioned that whether reopening places of worship is Hindutva and not doing so is secular? Don't you agree that you took oath on the constitution, the core of which is secularism, he verbally sparred.
CM Uddhav took a jibe at the Governor, saying that the delegation which met the latter are the BJP office bearers and supporters, coincidentally.
Lastly, he wrote that the Maharashtra government is seriously examining directions of the Governor and would soon take a suitable decision on the matter.
