SFs foil weapon smuggling bid from PoK; recover arms & ammunition near LoC

Srinagar, Oct 13 (UNI) Security forces on Tuesday claimed to have thwarted a weapon smuggling bid from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) by recovering arms and ammunition during a search operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.

An official said alert troops deployed at Tangdhar sector in Kupwara, thwarted yet another attempt by Pakistan Army to send weapons from PoK. “Following specific information, a joint search operation was launched by Army and J&K Police near the LoC at 1830 hours on Monday,” he said.

He said during the operation security forces recovered a bag from a location close to the LoC. “Upon checking, five pistols, ten magazines and 138 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the bag,” he added.

This is the second recovery near the LoC in Kupwara in less than a week. On October 9, alert troops deployed at the neighboring Keran Sector in Kupwara recovered four AK 74 Rifles, eight Magazines and 240 AK Rifle ammunition.

Total 28 nominees submit papers in MP

Bhopal, Oct 12 (UNI) As many as 26 contenders submitted nomination papers on Monday in Assembly by-poll-bound Madhya Pradesh thereby taking the total to 28, official sources said.

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur discussed Goods and Services Tax compensation of states online during the GST Council meeting.

COVID-19: School education takes a hit in MP

Bhopal, Oct 12 (UNI) Even as Madhya Pradesh battles the ‘millennium scourge’, the School Education Department issued an order on Monday that classes I to VIII will remain suspended till November 15 for safeguarding children from infection, official sources said.
Standards IX to XIII shall remain partially open. Regular teaching will not take place though online reading and learning shall continue as earlier. It will be compulsory for schools to follow the standard operating procedure/guidelines vis-à-vis health and safety.
