Mining production continues to decrease post lockdown

Mining production decreased by 3.3% in August compared to the previous year, Statistics South Africa said on Tuesday.

Iron ore recorded the largest fall in production with 18.1%, with gold output falling 14.8%. The production of platinum group minerals however showed an increase of 12.7%.

Mineral sales, meanwhile, increased by 20.9% year-on-year in August. Platinum group minerals again showed an increase in sales of 63% in August.
