Punjab BJP chief attacked by farmers

Hoshiarpur, Oct 12 (UNI) The vehicle of Punjab BJP President Ashwani Kumar Sharma was allegedly attacked and damaged at Cholang Toll Plaza, about 40 km from here on Jalandhar-Pathankot GT Road on Monday by the farmers, who were protesting against the three farm laws recently passed by Parliament.
The agitators also lay siege to him, but his security guards took him to a safer place.
The Centre recently got the three farm Bills passed in Parliament, including the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020; the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance 2020.
Talking to UNI over phone, Mr Sharma said that he was returning from Jalandhar in his car. When he reached Cholang toll plaza, some political elements who were already there, allegedly supported by the state government machinery, pelted stones on his vehicle.
The BJP leader alleged that it was a planned attack. They were not farmers. The attack was only to defame the ongoing farmers' agitation. They tried to disturb the peace of the state, he added.
