District logs 393 Covid-19 fresh cases, six deaths

Coimbatore: The district recorded 393 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 37,511. With 466 cases recovered and discharged, the number of active cases stood at 4,839.
The district also recorded six deaths due to the virus taking the toll to 497. The number of people recovered stood 32,175 taking the recovery rate further up at 85.7%.
Meanwhile, Tirupur which crossed 10,000-mark on Sunday by recording 185 fresh cases on the day, taking the total number of cases to 10,219. With one more death, its active cases stood at 1,301.
The Coimbatore deaths include a 38-year-old man admitted to CMCH with acute respiratory distress on October 6 evening. He tested positive for the virus on October 8 and died on Saturday night. He suffered severe bronchopneumonia despite having no other comorbidities. The other five deaths include a 50-year-old man with hypertension who died after 19 days of hospitalization due to Covid-19 pneumonia, a 68-year-old woman who died within 48 hours of hospitalization and three men in their 70s. They include a 72-year-old man who died exactly 24 hours after hospitalization at ESI Hospital on Saturday, a 70-year-old man who was admitted on September 30 with hypertension and diabetes died on October 10 evening and a 73-year-old man who got admitted on September 22 at CMCH, died on Saturday.
The fresh cases include a 51-year-old nurse from Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and a 23-year-old staff from Cosmopolitan Club at Race Course. While there were five cases from Nadar Street at Town Hall, the city’s notorious Covid-19 hub, Selvapuram reported 30 cases accounting for nearly 8% of the fresh cases on the day. There were six cases reported from R S Puram too, including two from Robertson Road, one from Theppakulam Street and one from Arockiasamy Road, among others. Other areas like Gandhipuram recorded six cases, Ganapathy recorded seven new cases, Singanallur saw five new cases, among others.
Outside corporation limits, Mettupalayam recorded six new cases, while Pollachi recorded 13 new cases. Sparsely populated Valparai recorded five fresh cases. Sulur continued to be a worry for officials with seven new cases.
Meanwhile, municipal administration minister S P Velumani conducted a meeting with representatives of private hospitals and laboratories on Monday. He ordered all private hospitals to collect the fee fixed by the state government and not fleece patients. He also instructed private laboratories to declare positive results as soon as possible and ensure the patients who they declare positive go to a hospital immediately and seek medical attention.
