CHANDIGARH: The state home department Haryana has claimed a drop of six per cent in crime graph in first nine months of 2020 in comparison to the same period of 2019.
As many as 96672 cases were registered between January and September 2020 as compared to 102831 cases during the first nine months of 2019.
While confirming this, Anil Vij, home minister Haryana, said that Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has always been tweeting that the graph of crime is increasing in Haryana but he should understand that the crime graph has dropped rapidly in the state. There has been a decrease in cases of heinous crimes including murder, crimes against women, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping for extortion this year, as compared to last year. Not only this, there was also a decrease in crime in 2019 in comparison to 2018.
The home minister said that the state has registered a 17% decrease in crime against women while around 88% cases of murder have been traced out. Similarly, the number of rape cases has been decreased by 13.57% this year and more than 93% rape cases have been solved. The kidnapping incidents in the state have come down by 20.73%.
Vij said that during the same period, an impressive decline has been witnessed in the cases of road accidents in the state due to the effective vigilance of the Police Department. The number of road accidents has dipped by 20.23%.
He also informed that under the NDPS Act, a total of 2240 cases were registered with the recovery of 339 kg of opium, 208 kg of charas, 7319 kg of ganja, 10130 kg of poppy husk, 31 kg of heroin and 11 kg of smack. In addition, the police have recovered 1241 pistols, 37 revolvers and 2463 cartridges.
From January to September, the police have busted 192 criminal gangs and arrested 182 most wanted criminals. Also, 2806 missing persons have been recovered and handed over to their parents and shelter homes.
It was also informed that 2124 policemen got corona infected while 6 personnel died while battling the epidemic.
Manoj Yadava, DGP Haryana, claimed that increased patrolling and vigilant surveillance of policemen in the state has helped in bringing down the crime graph to a great extent. “We are continuously getting success in curbing crime. Enhanced patrolling and close monitoring have help to bring down the crime rate in first 9 months as a dip has been seen in murder, dacoity and robbery, all prime indicators of better law and order,” said the DGP.
