Depression over Bay of Bengal intensifies

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal has intensified into ‘Deep Depression’ and has been moving towards west-northwestwards with a speed of six kmph during past six hours.
“At 1130 hrs, this Deep Depression lay centred at near latitude 15.9°N and longitude 84.8°E, about 250 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam, 290 km east-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) and 330 km east-southeast of Narsapur (Andhra Pradesh) on October 12”, the IMD said.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast between Narsapur and Vishakhapatnam which is close to Kakinada during the early morning of October 13 with wind speed of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph, it said.

This weather phenomena is likely to cause extremely heavy rainfall (more than 20 cm per day)at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and also over north Kerala and adjoining coastal Karnataka on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the national weather bureau, light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places likely to occur over south Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and north Kerala and heavy falls at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha on Monday.
The areas of Telangana, north interior Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada and heavy falls at isolated places over south Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, coastal Karnataka and Vidarbha are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places on October 13.

The Cyclone warning division of IMD also said squally wind speed would increase becoming 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over west central Bay of Bengal and along and off Andhra Pradesh coast and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, southwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha- Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts on 12th October 2020.
Squally winds, speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are also expected to prevail over Gulf of Mannar on October 12, 13.
Expecting to have a rough sea, the fishermen are advised not to venture into westcentral , northwest and southwest Bay of Bengal, and along and off Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts on October 12 and over Gulf of Mannar during October 12 and 13.
