The local trains under Western Railway — between Church Gate to Vasai railway station — have come to a standstill due to grid failure. The Central Railway (CR) that runs between CSMT and Kalyan has also been stopped. However, both National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) said that there is no stoppage in trading despite power failure. Amid the blackout, shares of Tata Power crashed by two percent.
Trains Reschuled | In view of interruption in Traction power at 10:05 AM due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, five long distance trains of Western Railways are affected as under:
1) 09025 Bandra terminus- Amritsar clone special train which departs at 11:15 AM is rescheduled to depart at 1 PM.
2) 02925 Bandra terminus- Amritsar Pashchim Express which departs at 12 Noon is rescheduled to depart at 1:15 PM.
3) 02933 Ahmedabad- Mumbai Central Karnavati Express will be short terminated at Borivali and will depart from Borivali as 02934
4) 09115 Sayaji Nagri Express will be short terminated at Borivali station and will depart from Borivali as 09116
5) 02480 Bandra terminus- Jodhpur Surya Nagri Express which departs at 1:30 PM is rescheduled to depart at 2:30 PM.
Restoration Details:
The Bhandup NBRS 33 KV substation, EHV GIS 220 KV Bhandup, 33 KV CBD1 and CBD 2, 220 KV Mahape line restored, 220 KV TIFIL, 220KV Bapgaon, 400kv padagha 1, 220kv colourchem, 220kv mulund 1&2, 220kv Siemens lines, 220 KV Uran, 400 KV kharghar Kamothe, Roadpalli is restored and Panvel city restored.
Details on the power outage
400kV Pune-Kalwa line was under forced shutdown since 1:47 PM due to R-Y phase fault. Pune end fault current-11.13 Kamp Dist-30.4 KM. E/S on 400kV Kalwa-Padghe line-1 availed by Maharashtra at 6:54 AM. Expected to be revived by 9:30 AM but could not be revived by Maharshtra. At 9:58 AM 400kv Kalwa-padghe-2 carrying 633MW tripped . The flow on Pune-Khargar rose upto 900MW and tripped at 10 AM. Khargar ICT-1 & 2 also tripped at 10:05 AM resulting in load drop of 360MW in Mumbai system. SLDC Kalwa is requested to normalize 400kV Kalwa-padghe-1 immediately and take Pune –Khargar via TBC into service. Mumbai island system was seperated but could not be on halt. About 900MW load dropped at 10:05 AM. Total load drop about 1300MW. As informed by Maharastra, Pune-Khargar line hand tripped due to heavy sparking. Pune-Khargar line closed at 10:27 AM.
Mumbai University Reschedules Exams | All students are hereby informed that due to massive power breakdown all over Maharashtra and as the extent and time of power outage can't be assessed, all UG and PG examination are being rescheduled to Sunday, October 18. The timings will remain the same, says Dr Hemlata Bagl, Principal KC College, Cluster Head university Examinations 2020.

Dip in Frequency in Transmission System: Tata Power | At 10.10 am, there were simultaneous substation tripping in MSETCL's Kalwa, Kharghar causing a huge dip in frequency in Mumbai transmission system which led to tripping of power supply. Restoration work in progress to bring supply from the 3 Hydro units and Trombay units: Tata Power.

Working to Restore Supply: Adani | There is a major power grid failure due to which supply is affected in most areas of mumbai. Churchgate-Borivali Trains Stopped | In view of interruption in Traction power at 10 AM due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, services between Churchgate and Borivili are suspended. It shall be resumed as soon as traction power supply is restored. Commuters are requested to cooperate. However, power supply from MSETCL available at Vasai Road and has been extended to work essential suburban trains between Borivili to Virar section. Efforts are on to start services in Churchgate-Borivali section.

Adani Electricity tweeted to inform that AEML is supplying around 385MW to critical services through Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) Dahanu. "Our teams are working to restore the supply in the affected areas at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused," it tweeted.
"In view of interruption in Traction power at 10.05 hrs due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, services between Churchgate and Borivili are suspended. It shall be resumed as soon as traction power supply is restored. Commuters are requested to cooperate. However, Power supply, from MSETCL available at Vasai Road & it has been extended to work essential suburban trains between Borivili to Virar section. Efforts are on to start services in Churchgate-Borivali section. Commuters are requested not to panic & maintain social distancing," the Western Railways said in a statement.
Aam Aadmi Party's national executive member Preeti Menon was among the locals who took to Twitter early in the morning to ask if "all of Mumbai is facing a power cut."
