Television actress Hina Khan made her mark at the Cannes Film Festival last year. She was one of the first TV actresses in her time, to have walked the red carpet of the film festival and slayed it there.
Back then, an editor had question, 'When did Cannes become Chandivali,' clearly calling the popular TV actress as a girl from Chandivali. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actress laughed at the accusation.
She also said, "Yes, TV is always looked down upon. It's sad because these are the same people who literally use us and our platform to promote their own projects. TV has the maximum reach. It shows how there's a lot of classism and class divide that exists between the two industries. TV actors are looked at as mazdoors, they work their *** off, do double shifts everyday almost."
More often than not, TV actors are termed 'over-dramatic', however Hina states it is the need of the medium. Sharing that if asked, the TV actors could also showcase their subtle acting, Hina said, "They always tell us that we act over the top. But that's the demand of our audience. Give us a chance and let us prove ourselves. We can do the subtle acting, too."
The actress was also praises for 'desi girl' Priyanka Chopra, who also made her Cannes debut the same year. Talking about how she felt when Priyanka introduced her as 'top Indian star' at the Cannes gala, Hina added, "She is someone who I always look up to. She treated me so well and it didn't end there. She is still in touch with me. A lot of Indian designers didn't want to give me clothes and that was the sad reality. I had to opt for designers abroad and they love me. They are always messaging me and appreciating me. They don't do these discriminations."
Hina also revealed that she got over the Chandivali comment thanks to her boyfriend Rocky Jaiswal. He assured her that Hina, like promised, made a noise and it was heard.
