
LIVE: Mumbai in dark after power grid failure; trains, hospitals take massive hit
A power grid failure has been reported in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Most areas are without any electricity at the moment. There is also no power at a number of hospitals. Areas including Powai, Marol, Goregaon, Versova, Chandivali, Navi Mumbai, Thane city, Thane rural, Andheri Chakala, JB Nagar, Meghvadi, Jogeshwari, Sarvoday Nagar, Konkan Nagar, Hanjar Nagar, Poonam Nagar are off electricity supply. Train traffic of all lines Central, Eastern & Western Railway has taken a hit.

11:20 AM: BMC chief says -
"All the hospitals to contact their respective SWM transport GARAGE officers to get enough supply of diesel for at least eight hours so that there is no power failures in hospitals especially ICUs. In case of any issues please contact disaster control room for help. CE SWM to coordinate this.
Disaster control and CE M&E To keep stand bye private MOBILE DG SET vehicles handy within next one hour in case power failure continues beyond two hours. Please report to Shri. Narvekar or smt. Sangita Lokhande at DM Control about this every half an hour."

11:09 AM: The power grid failure has hampered operations at various hospitals in Mumbai as well, especially where COVID-19 patients and those critical are admitted.
11:05 AM: Adani Electricity issues statement
There is a major power grid failure due to which supply is affected in most areas of mumbai. As per grid safety protocols, Adani Power System has been able to sustain and islanded. AEML is currently supplying to critical services in Mumbai Around 385MW through AEML Dahanu generation. Our teams are working to restore the supply in the affected areas at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused.
11:02 AM: An official statement - "In view of interruption in Traction power at 10.05 hrs due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, services btwn Churchgate & Borivili are suspended. It shall be resumed as soon as traction power supply is restored. Commuters are requested to cooperate. However, power supply, from MSETCL available at Vasai Road & it has been extended to work essential suburban trains between Borivili to Virar section. Efforts are on to start services in Churchgate-Borivali section. Commuters are requested not to panic & maintain social distancing."
11:00 AM: There is multiple tripping of lines and transformer (Kalwa-padghe and Khargar ICTs) supplying power to Mumbai system. 360 MW supply in Mumbai and suburbs affected. Restoration under process.
10:57 AM: Western Railway local trains shut between Churchgate to Vasai railwau station due to grid failure. 400 KV Line has tripped. Whole MIDC, Palghar, Dahanu lines has affected. It will take one hour to restore the supply, as per EHV team.
10:47 AM: Traffic light systems on the roads have also been affected.
