Cleaning rare, it’s a den of snakes: Sec 9A residents

Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 9A have alleged that the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is not taking the sanitation work seriously in the area. They claim the number of sweepers deployed for the sector does not match the number that actually reports to work.
The RWA has been regularly writing to senior officials in the municipal corporation but no action has been initiated, residents said.
“Officials who are in charge of the sanitation work never visit the sectors to verify concerns of RWA. The situation is going from bad to worse with each passing day. Roads are not getting cleaned for days and wild grass is occupying green belts and road sides,” said Lalit Suraj Bhola, general secretary, RWA, Sector 9A.
According to the RWA, things were much better when the sector was under HSVP, as everything was “systematic and no payment was made to contractors without a satisfaction letter from respective RWAs”. However, things have changed ever since MCG took over the sector, they claimed. “MCG does not take sanitation seriously. Streets can be seen full of filth and wild grass and vacant plots have become dens of snakes, rodents and venomous insects,” said Kunal Kapoor, another resident.
The RWA has written to the chief minister, citing huge differences in sweepers on paper and sweepers actually present on ground causing blatant plunder of taxpayers’ money and demanded stern action on wilfully negligent officers having a nexus with non-performing contractors.
Meanwhile, MCG said it has received complaints regarding the issue. “We have a diligent team of sanitation workers. We will look into the issue,” said a senior MCG official.
At present, the city has 5,000 sanitation workers who are on payroll of private contractors.
