Mumbai Electricity Failure Highlights: Power supply restored in most areas of MMR
Updates of the major power outage in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Electricity supply is being restored across the region in a phased manner after a 'grid failure'
Several areas of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) were facing a major power outage which started just after 10.00 am today. Electricity supply is being restored across the region in a phased manner. Supply has already been restored in most areas including Dadar, Panvel, South Mumbai, Thane and Worli. Suburban train services which had been impacted due to the power outage, have resumed. Both the National Stock Exchange and the BSE are functioning normally. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said it does not expect further disruptions to power supply in MMR.

A major grid failure that resulted in massive power outage across Mumbai and adjoining Thane and Navi Mumbai has made hospital administrations anxious. Hospitals have struggled to ensure that the emergency power backup systems are up and running.
But as power has now been restored in most parts of the city, patients and hospital managements have heaved a sigh of relief.

The major power outage in Mumbai has not affected malls as they have 100 percent back up during such electricity failures. Most mall owners in Mumbai that Moneycontrol spoke to said that they have a generator to ensure continued power during outages. Back up of the generators lasts for 14 hours.
Most malls in Mumbai open for up to 10 hours, starting 11.00 am. So, a 14-hour back up is enough for malls.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has taken cognisance of the power outage in MMR and ordered an immediate probe into the matter.
State Energy Minister Nitin Raut also said the reasons behind the technical snag that caused power failure in parts of the MMR will be probed once the electricity supply is restored.
