Mumbai Electricity Failure Highlights: Power supply restored in most areas of MMR

Updates of the major power outage in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Electricity supply is being restored across the region in a phased manner after a 'grid failure'

Several areas of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) were facing a major power outage which started just after 10.00 am today. Electricity supply is being restored across the region in a phased manner. Supply has already been restored in most areas including Dadar, Panvel, South Mumbai, Thane and Worli. Suburban train services which had been impacted due to the power outage, have resumed. Both the National Stock Exchange and the BSE are functioning normally. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said it does not expect further disruptions to power supply in MMR.

    The major power outage in Mumbai has not affected malls as they have 100 percent back up during such electricity failures. Most mall owners in Mumbai that Moneycontrol spoke to said that they have a generator to ensure continued power during outages. Back up of the generators lasts for 14 hours.

    Most malls in Mumbai open for up to 10 hours, starting 11.00 am. So, a 14-hour back up is enough for malls.
