HIGHLIGHTS

  • Riyan Parag displayed the Bihu dance after hitting match-winning six against SRH
  • Parag and Tewatia added 85 runs in just 47 deliveries
  • Rajasthan won the game by 5 wickets against SRH

Rajasthan Royals batsmen Riyan Parag and Rahul Tewatia starred in their team’s 5 wicket-victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Sunday. The pair, for the 6th-wicket stand, added 85 runs in just 47 deliveries after RR were struggling at 78/5 at a point. Both batsmen, Parag (42* off 26) and Tewatia (45* off 28), were incredible during their time at the crease despite being under pressure.

Immediately after hitting the match-winning 6, as 2 runs were required of the last 2 deliveries, Parag got rid of his helmet and let loose his bat to break into a dance of Bihu. It was absolutely pure from the 18-year-old kid to do a celebratory dance for his kin and the fans seemed to have enjoyed it too.

“I’d seen you last year doing the dance after taking a wicket last year [against RCB in IPL 2019],” remarked a very humbly intrigued Rahul Tewatia.

“Yes, yes, that’s our traditional dance in Assam,” Riyan Parag replied.

Then the humble young kid that Parag is, he taught Tewatia how to do the Bihu dance and viewers can attest that Rahul nailed it!

Also, as Tewatia pointed out, it wasn’t Parag’s first time of doing the Bihu dance in the Indian Premier League. The Assam spinner had dismissed RCB’s Gurkeerat Singh back in the only game he played against Virat Kohli’s team in IPL 2019 and has displayed the same dance as a celebration. While Sheldon Cottrell’s salute or even Trent Johnston and Chris Gayle’s chicken dance have been well-received among fans, Parag’s Bihu dance is a new favourite for sure!
