New Delhi: Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal took to Twitter Monday to announce that the firm’s food delivery volumes have reached “pre-Covid peaks” and was as high as 120 per cent in some of the Indian cities.

Goyal also said the food delivery sector in the country might continue to grow at 15-20 per cent every month.

He said food delivery was “one of the safest recreational options” available to customers during the pandemic and a total of 9.2 crore orders were delivered via the Zomato app since March 2020.

There have also been zero reported cases of Covid-19 transmission through food delivery, or their agents, Goyal added.

Zomato had in August said that the dining industry was operating at just 8 to 10 per cent of its gross merchandise value (GMV) from pre-pandemic levels. The food delivery giant also estimated that nearly 10 per cent dine-out restaurants across the country had shut down due to the pandemic, while 30 per cent more restaurants were not operating till August or are not likely to reopen even after the pandemic ends.

However, it had said that the food delivery industry would be clocking around 75 to 80 per cent of pre-Covid GMV in the month of August. The firm had also estimated that food delivery businesses may hit pre-Covid levels in the next two-three months.
