Customs seize 2.88 kg gold worth Rs.1.32 cr. at airport, 3 passengers from Dubai arrested

Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) Officials of the Customs Air
Intelligence Unit (AIU) late on Sunday night seized
2.88 kg gold worth Rs 1.32 crores and arrested three
passengers, who arrived from Dubai at the international
airport here.
A release from the office of the Commissioner of customs
said, based on specific intelligence that gold was likely to
be smuggled from Dubai, two passengers of Chennai and
one of Ramanathapuram, who had arrived from Dubai by
two separate flights, were intercepted.
On persistent questioning they confessed to carrying gold
paste bundles concealed in rectum.
On their personal search 12 bundles(four each) of gold paste
were recovered from their rectum from which 2.77 kg gold
was recovered after extraction.
Three gold bits weighing 116 gms were also recovered from
their pant pockets (one each).
In all, 2.88 kg gold of 24 k purity valued at Rs 1.32 crore
was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
All three have been arrested.
Further investigation is under progress.
