Mumbai Power Outage LIVE Updates: MMR faces major ‘interruption in electric supply’, local train services hit

Several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are facing a major power outage. Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport said this was due to interruption in incoming electric supply.

Several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) started facing a major power outage starting around 10.00 am on October 12.

“The electric supply is interrupted due to TATAs incoming electric supply failure. Inconveniences is regretted,” Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Electricity said in a tweet.

> Mumbai’s Commissioner IS Chahal has asked all hospitals in the city to contact their respective SWM transport garage officers to get enough supply of diesel for at least eight hours, to ensure there is no power failure in hospitals, especially ICUs. Mobile diesel generator sets to remain on standby.

> Residents of Mumbai have been requested to call on 022-22694727, 022-226947725 and 022-22704403 in case of emergencies, in view of the power outage.

> Maharashtra's Energy Minister Nitin Raut has said that areas between Thane and Mumbai are facing a power cut "due to a technical glitch in Circuit 2 of the Kalva-Padghe powerhouse".

"Our staff is working on it and power will be restored in an hour or 45 minutes," Raut added.

> "There is a major power grid failure due to which supply is affected in most areas of Mumbai. As per grid safety protocols, Adani Power System has been able to sustain and islanded. AEML is currently supplying to critical services in Mumbai Around 385MW through AEML Dahanu generation. Our teams are working to restore the supply in the affected areas at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused (sic)," Adani Power said in a series of tweets.

> A spokesperson of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) said that the power failure was caused by TATA Power's central grid failure at Kalwa. "It will take 45 minutes to one hour to restore the supply," MCGM added.

> Central Railways’ Chief Public Relation Officers (CPRO) said suburban train services had also been disrupted due to the grid failure. Services of Western Railways' local trains between Churchgate and Vasai were also impacted, News18 reported.

> Andheri, Bandra, Kandivali, Mulund, Vashi and Thane, were among many areas of MMR affected by the outage.

> The National Stock Exchange (NSE) said in a tweet that it was functioning normally.

> Taking to social media, several residents were complaining of the sudden power outage. Electricity had not been restored as of 10.45 am.
