Rohtak MLA booked, says ‘govt trying to put me down’

Gurgaon: Balraj Kundu, the Independent MLA from Rohtak, his brother Shivraj and two contractors have been booked for fraud and criminal intimidation.
The complainant, Parivartan Singh, a resident of Sector 51, said Kundu’s firm KCC Buildtech Private Limited had bagged a contract in 2017 for developing roads in MP at a cost of Rs 170 crores. A 38km patch was contracted to Singh for Rs 74 crores. While work went on smoothly in the beginning, differences soon cropped up between Singh and Kundu’s firm.
“We complained several times about problems in the execution of the project but they didn’t pay heed. Fed up, we stopped the work in 2019 and asked for payment of dues,” said Singh.
He alleged that Shivraj, who was director of the firm, threatened him and his team. “They told us that unless we complete the work, we will not be paid,” claimed Singh.
While work resumed, one of the four accused contractors reached the site one day, beat up the workers and confiscated the machinery, Singh alleged.
In March 2019, Singh handed over a termination letter to Kundu’s firm, following which he was called to their office in Gurgaon. “We were told that we will be paid the remaining Rs 14 crores in the next week but that payment didn’t come through,” said Singh. Instead, he claimed they threatened him that if he ever went to their office again, they would kill him. A case under IPC sections 420 and 506 has been registered at Sector 50 police station. “We are gathering documents for further investigation,” said a police officer in the know of the matter.
Kundu termed it a move by the government ‘to put him down’. “This has happened after I withdrew support from the BJP government. I have been in the business for 25 years and never had such an issue before,” he said.
