The deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao Sachin Desai on Monday has advised the members of the Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association (GFBOA) not to indulge in selling fish illegally in the Mormugao municipal jurisdiction.
Meeting of the GFBOA members was convened at the deputy collector’s chamber in Vasco on Monday after there was panic created at Khariwada fishing jetty when Vasco police personnel restricted some members of the GFBOA who were involved in illegal sale of fish on Sunday morning.
The GFBOA president Jose Philip D’Souza has decided to protest the act of the police by visiting the Vasco police station on Monday. However, the Vasco police in this regard have sought intervention of the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao as there was possibilities of law and order situation. Considering the request of the Vasco police, deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao have asked the members of the GFBOA to attend the meeting, but interestingly failed to summon the GFBOA president D’Souza.
The deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao however have summoned D’Souza for the meeting, but he failed to attend the meeting.
The deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao has advised the members of the GFBOA not to indulge in illegal selling of fish. “The unregulated fish vendors should not sell fish in open as Mormugao municipal authority has decided to impose a ban on selling roadside fish. The fishermen at Khariwada should stick to the SOP issued by the fisheries department and should not involve themselves in selling fish at the fishing jetty. The members of the GFBOA have agreed to the direction and they will comply accordingly”, added Desai.
The meeting was attended by MMC chairperson Nandadeep Raut,
deputy superintendent of police Vasco Raju Raut Dessai, Vasco PI Nilesh Rane and other officials of the MMC.
