Stalin sees ‘saffronisation’ move in Anna University VC writing directly to Centre

DMK president M K Stalin
CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Monday questioned Anna University vice-chancellor M K Surappa for writing a letter directly to the Centre stating that the premiere higher education institution does not need funds from the Tamil Nadu government and can raise on its own Rs 1,500 crore required, as it moves ahead to become an Institute of Eminence (IoE).
"Is the VC yet another chief minister of Tamil Nadu. How can he bypass the state and write to the Centre directly? When the Centre has not given a written undertaking for ensuring 69% reservation, why is the hurry," Stalin asked.
He urged chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to take up the issue with governor Banwarilal Purohit and also write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarifying the state's stand on reservation and to cancel the planned split of Anna University.
"Failure on the part of EPS will indicate that he was part of a silent pact along with governor Purohit and VC Surappa in saffronising Anna University," Stalin said in his statement.
