New Delhi, Oct 12(UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday sought within six weeks the Centre's detailed response on a bunch of petitions challenging the recent farm laws passed by Parliament.
The petitions filed by Chhattishgarh Kisan Congress leader Rakesh Vaishnav, Advocate, Manohar Lal Sharma, and DMK MP Tiruchi Siva.
Chief Justice of India (CJI), S A Bobde, heading the bench of the Apex Court, said, 'Mr AG (Attorney General), K K Venugopal, ultimately you may have to answer these questions sometime or the other. You file a reply'.
"We issue notice. You (Centre) file a detailed reply on these number of petitions," the bench said.
The court was hearing a batch of petitions including that of advocate M L Sharma, challenging the validity of recent Farm laws, which have been in the eye of the storm for farmers protests in Punjab and other states led by Congress.
The Apex Court said, there is no cause of action arising merely because the law has been passed.
CJI Bobde said, 'We have here Attorney General, Solicitor General, Additional Solicitor General all here in a case where there is no cause of action. In common parlance, this is called overkill. Merely because, law is passed does not give a cause of action.
The AG sought six weeks time to file the detailed reply, to which, the Apex Court allowed his prayer.
