Gujarat: Upset over bail rejections, HIV positive murder accused ends life in jail

SURAT: A 38-year-old HIV positive murder accused ended life in Lajpore Central Jail by hanging himself. The deceased used a bedsheet to allegedly commit suicide and tied it to a ceiling fan in the prison.
Mohammad Asif Ishad, currently lodged in room 1 of high security yard, was found hanging in his room by jail staff at around 10.30 pm. Soon LCJ officials alerted local police and they contacted family members of the deceased. The family members were called at the jail for verification. Registering a case of accidental death in Sachin police station police started investigation.
The body was later sent for post mortem. Preliminary post mortem examination revealed that Ishad died due to hanging. His family members informed police that he was upset due to rejection of bail. He was in jail since 2017 for murder registered in Chowk Bazaar police station of city.
"Family members told police that they tried to get Ishad out on bail twice in the past few months but the bail application was rejected. He was physically weak due to prolonged illness," said a police officer in Sachin police station.
