HYDERABAD: Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has put the administration of all the districts in the state on high alert as the meteorological department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in the next two days.
The chief minister instructed chief secretary Somesh Kumar to ensure that district collectors and district superintendents of police review the situation as and when required and take immediate action for the safety of the lives and properties of the people.
The chief minister on Sunday asked the officials as well as people to remain vigilant and cautious keeping in view the heavy to very heavy rain forecast warning in the state in the next two days. Heavy rains have been lashing at several places across the State since Saturday evening.
The Chief Minister instructed Somesh Kumar to keep the entire administration on high alert. He wanted the Chief Secretary to monitor the situation with the district collectors, superintendents of police and also police commissioners at regular intervals and take necessary relief measures.
Somesh Kumar directed the officials to stay put in their respective headquarters and respond to people to avert unnecessary losses to lives and property. The meteorological Department has issued a warning that there might be heavy to very heavy rainfall over isolated parts of the state, especially the erstwhile districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal and Khammam.
Massive flooding and waterlogging are likely to occur in low lying areas. Falling of trees and electric poles can happen leading to disruption of normal activities. Reservoirs, tanks and streams may overflow causing inundation of low-lying areas and cause low bridges and causeways to overflow, posing threat to traffic and people.
The Collectors and SPs are requested to put the entire district administration on alert and strictly follow the flood protocol communicated earlier, Somesh Kumar said.
Special attention needs to be paid to low level bridges and causeways and all vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement has to be strictly prohibited and ensure no loss of life, he added.
