Coronavirus cases in India: The recovery rate now stands at 86.2 per cent.

India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 70-lakh mark as the country reported 74,383 new cases of coronavirus and 918 deaths on Sunday, the Health Ministry data showed. 89,154 people successfully fought off the viral disease and were discharged.

India's recovery rate increased marginally to 86.2 per cent, death rate stood steady at 1.5 per cent and daily positivity rate increased marginally to 6.9 per cent as more than 10.7 lakh tests were conducted in 24 hours.

As per the government's "test, track and treat" policy more than 8.5 crore tests have been conducted in India till now, the Health Ministry tweeted.

US COVID-19 cases hit two-month high, 10 states report record increases

New cases of COVID-19 in the United States hit a two-month high on Friday with over 58,000 infections of the coronavirus reported and hospitalizations in the Midwest at record levels for a fifth day in a row, according to a Reuters analysis.

Ten of the 50 states reported record one-day rises in cases on Friday, including the Midwestern states of Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio. Wisconsin and Illinois recorded over 3,000 new cases for a second day in a row - a two-day trend not seen even during the height of the previous outbreak in the spring, according to Reuters data.

WHO reports record daily rise in coronavirus cases for third consecutive day

The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed globally has been reaching daily record highs for three days in a row, according to data from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

In the past 24 hours, a record 383,359 new coronavirus cases were confirmed. The day before, there were 350,766 new cases, and before that, 338,779 new cases were reported by the WHO.

The number of new deaths from COVID-19 registered in the past 24 hours stands at 8,575. The total global coronavirus death toll is at 1,064,838, according to the WHO. The total number of confirmed cases is 36,754,395.

Trump no longer considered transmission risk to others, says his doctor

US President Donald Trump is no longer considered a transmission risk to others, the White House Physician has said, as the president held an in-person event on the White House lawns for the first time since contracting the COVID-19 disease.

White House Physician Dr Sean Conley said on Saturday, "This evening I am happy to report that in addition to the President meeting CDC criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning''s COVID PCR sample demonstration, by currently recognized standards, he is no longer considered a transmission risk to others."

In a White House memorandum, Dr Conley said now at day 10 from symptom onset, fever-free for well over 24 hours and all symptoms improved, the assortment of advances diagnostics test obtained reveal there is no longer evidence of actively replicating virus.

Veteran Bengal Actor Soumitra Chatterjee, Covid+, In ICU
Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee is currently in intensive care due to complications linked to Covid-19. The octogenarian was admitted to the Belle Vue hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday, after testing positive a day before. His daughter said Mr Chatterjee is suffering from Covid encephalopathy and is disoriented and restless.

According to hospital sources, the actor may require an MRI of the brain to investigate the encephalopathy, which has led to "an acute confusional state." Read more

Trump "No Longer A Transmission Risk," Says White House Doctor

Washington: President Donald Trump is no longer contagious, nine days after being stopped in his tracks by Covid-19, his physician said in a statement released late Saturday.

"This evening I am happy to report that in addition to the President meeting CDC criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning's COVID PCR sample demonstrates, by currently recognized standards, he is no longer considered a transmission risk to others," the president's physician Sean Conley said in the statement.
