Jalandhar admin sternly fights stubble burning, machines to 13 panchayats at subsidy rates to be given

Jalandhar, Oct 11 (UNI) In order to ensure the small and marginal farmers have access to the crop residue machines to manage the stubble, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare first time, has roped in village panchayats to apply for the machines under 'subsidy scheme'.

Following the appeal by department, the panchayats including Meda, Gill, Gillan, Talwandi Butia, Kamaalpur, Nasirpur, Ghudowal, Sultanpur, Rehmanpur, Gag Dhagara, Shamsabad, Rajowal and Thamanwal gave enthusiastic response and applied for the machines.

Now the machine's subsidy about Rs 20.41 lakh will be given to these 13 panchayats under 80-percent subsidy.
These panchayats have given assurance to the department that it would give these machines to the small and marginal farmers on nominal rent.
Meda village sarpanch Manjinder Singh said the village has around 60 paddy farmers and it has around 600 areas under paddy crop.
He said panchayat wants to achieve a zero burning target that's why we took decision to apply.
He said we will also apply for our own baler machines.
He said we are going to purchase superseeder machine which will be given preferably to the poor and needy farmer of his village.
Sarpanch Himmat Singh of village Gill said for the small and marginal farmers, the panchayats have purchased superseeder machines and subsidy of Rs 1.57 lakh will be given by the government as per scheme.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Surinder Singh said The Agriculture department has also carried out the verification of the machines and subsidy would be transferred to them soon.
He said the department is emphasizing on small and marginal farmers to use these machines and not to burn the stubble.
Dr Singh added that these panchayats would help the department to fight against the stubble burning menace and ensure the environment remains clean.
