Shillong, Oct 10 (UNI) A 42-year-old cop died due to Novel Coronavirus in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district. The policeman is the first such victim in the Meghalaya police department, taking the number of fatalities due to the viral infection in the State to 62, health official said on Saturday
Armed Branch Constable Pulsan Dalu of Police Reserve, Williamnagar, was admitted at Civil Hospital, Williamnagar on Friday morning and tested positive for COVID-19 and later succumbed to the viral infection on the same day, Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said.
“The immediate cause of death was due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome with COVID-19 with Bronchial Asthma with Hypertension,”Dr.War said.
Over 60 personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 and many of them have recovered from the viral infection
On the other hand, Meghalaya registered 156 new COVID 19 cases taking the active cases to 2,437 on Saturday.
Of the new cases, Dr. War informed that 83 were detected in East Khasi Hill district, 31 in Ri-Bhoi district, 18 in West Jaintia Hills district, eight cases each in West Garo Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district, three in South Garo Hills district, two in South West Garo Hills district and one each from North Garo Hills district, East Garo Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.
With 1,722 active cases, including 1689 civilians and 33 from among armed/paramilitary forces, East Khasi Hills district, including Shillong is the most affected district in the State.
Dr. War also informed that the State also registered 142 new recoveries today taking the total recovered cases to 5,045.
Among the new recoveries, East Khasi Hills district registered 90, West Garo Hills district- 21, Ri-Bhoi district - eight, East Jaintia Hills district - seven, East Garo Hills district- six, West Jaintia Hills district- four, West Khasi Hills district - three and South West Garo Hills district, he said.
Till date, Meghalaya has detected a total of 7,544 COVID 19 cases out of which 2,437 are active, 62 deceased and 5,045 recoveries.
