PATNA: The RJD on Saturday received a major jolt in Saran district after its former minister and five-time MLA from Garkha (SC) seat Muneshwar Choudhary joined the Jan Adhikar Party –Loktantrik (JAP-L), headed by former MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, at the latter’s state office in Patna.
The JAP-L national president Pappu Yadav provided his party’s membership to Choudhary in presence of several senior party leaders including former MLA Akhlaque Ahmad, state president Raghupati Singh and Raghvendra Kushwaha.
RJD’s sitting MLA from Garkha, Muneshwar Choudhary was mines and geology minister in the Grand Alliance government headed by Nitish Kumar from 2015 to 2017. Choudhary first became the MLA from Garkha on the Janta Party ticket way back in 1977. He later won the seat in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2015 assembly polls.
Besides Choudhary, social activist Rani Choubey also joined the JAP-L along with her hundreds of supporters. Rani said she has planned to contest the assembly polls from Bhagalpur seat on the JAP-L ticket. Bhagalpur will be going to polls in the second phase on November 3. October 16 is the last date for filing nomination papers from Bhagalpur seat.
Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary said he remained with the RJD boss Lalu Prasad for the last 35 years and always stood in his support in every moment of happiness or sorrow. “But these days, the RJD has been overpowered by the people having huge money and muscle power. Hence, I decided to quit the party and joined the JAP-L,” Choudhary said.
Choudhary’s supporters said the former minister would now contest assembly polls from Garkha on the JAP-L ticket. “Choudhary decided to quit the RJD after he got a hint from some senior RJD leaders that this year he would not be provided the party’s symbol,” his supporters said.
