Punjab protest: Ensure adequate stocking of essentials, fuel in J&K: AP

Srinagar, Oct 10 (UNI) Apni Party (AP) has urged Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) government to ensure hassle free supply of fuel to Jammu and Kashmir which has been adversely impacted by the farmers agitation in Punjab.
Addressing a meeting of prominent workers of the Party from district Pulwama at Party office here on Saturday, senior vice president Ghulam Hassan Mir stressed on the J&K government to urgently take up the matter with the Punjab government where the farmers’ stir has disrupted railway services required for carriage of fuel supplies to J&K.
“Reports suggest that fuel supplies to J&K have been badly affected in the last 10 days. Usually we face such disruptions in Kashmir due to frequent closure of Srinagar-Jammu National highway mainly during the winters. I call upon the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha Ji to take up this issue seriously for the smooth supplies of diesel and petrol to J&K,” Mir added.
Mir also urged the J&K government to ensure winter stocking and supply of essential commodities in Kashmir valley particularly in the frontier and far-flung areas of both the divisions.

He demanded adequate stock of food-grains, fuel, LPG and other essential commodities wherever required. “The administration must not only ensure proper supply position of essentials but keep a buffer stock of electricity transformers, conductor wires and poles available so that people in Kashmir Valley do not face any inconvenience during harsh winter season,” he opined.

Mir emphasized on the need for the process of lifting and dispatch of essential commodities including rice, flour and kerosene to the Gurez area of Bandipora district, Karnah, Machil, and Keran areas of Kupwara district without any delay.

“Similarly, the government must take a stock of essential commodities in Jammu divisions and ensure no border area in Jammu division remains craving for ration and fuel during winter season,” he observed.

Regarding the Apni Party activities, Mir stressed on the party cadre to put in their relentless efforts for redressal of public grievances in their respective areas and also strengthen the party base at the grassroots level. “We need to effectively disseminate our party agenda among the people and make them aware about our policy and programmes for socio-economic development of J&K,” he added.
