Noida: An 18-second video of a mobile snatching incident captured on the CCTV camera of Elite Homz in Sector 77 on Friday spread like wildfire, where a 23-year-old man was attacked by two bike-borne criminals.
In less than a fortnight, this is the second such incident of snatching reported from the city.
Hemant Sharma, who works in a private company, was walking towards the society around 9.48 am, when two bike-born men accosted him and snatched his phone.
The footage shows that as soon as the mobile gets snatched, Hemant and other pedestrians chasing the bike. But they manage to flee.
An FIR under Section 392 (robbery) of the IPC has been registered at Sector 49 police station. A cop said after patrolling was increased to prevent attacks on morning walkers, snatchers have changed their timings and have started targeting people around 10-11 am.
On September 30, bike-borne assailants attacked a woman and snatched her gold chain in Sector 22. That incident was captured on a CCTV video, in which two bike-borne men could be seen arriving in the lane, taking a u-turn and waiting for 15 seconds before riding past the woman and snatching her chain.
Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said they have been changing strategies to nab these criminals.
“Action is being taken place against snatchers continuously. Many snatchers have been caught in the past and on Thursday too, two interstate snatchers were caught and four bikes, one scooter and seven mobiles have been recovered from them. Some incidents have been taking place near Sector 49 and 24 police stations, and we are working to check them. We are constantly monitoring members of old gangs and those who are out on bail. It seems, these bikers —who have recently got active — come from Delhi side, commit a crime and then return to Delhi,” he said.
