COVID:45 pc of deaths were those of above age of 60 yrs in UP

Lucknow, Oct 10 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh health department on Saturday disclosed that 74 per cent of the Covid-19 deaths were due to comorbidity while 45 per cent of the casualties were above the age of 60 years.

Disclosing the facts, state additional chief secretary, health Amit Mohan Prasad said here on Saturday that of the audit report of 6000 deaths so far of the total 6353, it was found that the senior citizen above the age of 60 years faced the brunt of the Covid.
He said of the total 6000 deaths, 71 per cent were male and rest 29 were females while 63 per cent were from urban and 37 from rural background.
" But the serious thing is though the positive rate of senior citizen above the age of 60 years was just 9.4 per cent but their death percentage of was 45 per cent. Besides in the age group of 51 to 60 years, the positivity rate was 13 per cent but the death rate was 25.3 per cent," Mr Prasad said.
He said the comorbidity was the main reason for such large number of deaths when it accounts for 74 per cent casualties.
The health department officials said government was concerned for such high death rate among the senior citizen, hence has asked the people of the age group to be cautious and follow all the guidelines and prevention of Covid.
