VIJAYAWADA: A total of 84.78 per cent students cleared the entrance test for admission into engineering courses while 91.77 per cent passed the exam in agriculture stream.

V Sainath from Visakhapatnam bagged first rank in the field of engineering, while Chaitanya Sindhu topped the table for agriculture.

Andhra Pradesh education minister Adimulapu Suresh announced the results for Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) on Saturday.

Separate exams were conducted on October 7 for those candidates who could not write the exam during the given schedule as they had tested positive for Covid-19. Of them 78 had appeared for the exam.

The results were delayed by two days as they included results of these 78 candidates as well.

"The medical test results of all these 97 students, who had requested for retest because of testing positive, were thoroughly scrutinised and only then were they allowed to write the exam," added the minister.

Addressing the media, Suresh said that the pass percentage has increased this year as compared to the previous year.

"A total of 84.78 per cent students passed the engineering test this year as against the 71.61 per cent of the previous year," he added. He also appreciated the efforts of JNTU Kakinada, the institute responsible to conduct the exam.

"As many as 15,000 students were relocated as per their choice of centre in the view of the pandemic. The officials of JNTU Kakinada ensured that each student gets his/her preferred centre and helped the government keep its word," said Suresh.

Meanwhile, several students and parents had raised concerns over easier papers being given during some sessions.

Reacting to the grievances, Suresh said, "As this year we had to conduct exams in several sessions, different question papers for each session were given. However, 75-25 pattern will be followed during the admission process in order to ensure justice to each student. 75 per cent weightage will be given to EAMCET results and 25 per cent to the students' intermediate results. This process is called the normalisation process and it will be followed properly."

The rank cards will be available on the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) website from October 14 onwards. The results have been sent to the students' registered mobile number as well.

The dates for counselling will be announced shortly.
