MYSURU: Karnataka government on Saturday suspended the ambitious Vidyagama scheme aimed at ensuring continuous learning has been abruptly suspended.
This scheme was launched as per the advice of the MHRD to keep the students engaged in learning activities. Under the scheme, the teachers were visiting the places where students were residing and helping them to continue learning activities.
An announcement in this regard was made by primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar.
"I am aware of the mixed opinion expressed about the scheme. It was designed keeping in mind the students from the economically and socially weaker sections of the society. However, till the completion of the analysis of the reports from various districts on the pros and cons of the scheme, we decided to suspend the scheme implementation," he stated.
Chandrasekhar Nuggi, general secretary of teachers association has welcomed the decision. "It was our demand as more teachers and students were getting infected with Covid 19. We welcome the government decision," he said.
