FDA raided various places across Haryana during last month :Vij

Chandigarh, Oct 10 (UNI) While working swiftly on the directions given by Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted various raids across the state during the last one month.
During the raids, the FDA has collected 200 samples of adulterated ghee, butter, spices, tea leaves, cheese, khoya, mixed edible oil, mustard oil, vegetable oil, sesame oil etc and also seized 510 kg of ghee worth about Rs 2.14 lakh.
Mr Vij said reports of 150 samples have been received so far, of these, 65 samples were found to be non-compliant with the prescribed food safety norms. He said out of these 65, eight samples were found to be unsafe, 36 sub-standard and 21 mis-branded.
He said of these cases, proceedings against eight unsafe samples are going on in the court, while investigation on the remaining sub-standard and mis-branded 57 samples is being done by the concerned authorities under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The Minister informed that a joint committee, consisting of three officers headed by Joint Commissioner Food, has been formed at the state level. This committee is closely monitoring a special raiding campaign being run in various districts of the state.
The committee has been ordered to examine stocks and samples of tea, spices, ghee and other food items as required, he said and added that the committee has recently conducted raids in Panipat, Jind, Ambala and Karnal and collected 46 samples of food items including indigenous ghee, paneer, khoya, edible oils, vegetable oils.
Under this, he said, 510 kg of ghee has been seized from Karnal, and action is being taken under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
