The Mangadu police are investigating the claims of a man that he was kidnapped by his estranged wife over a property dispute. The victim, Muthu of Mugalivakkam who runs a shop in Pudupet, went missing on October 1. His relatives had lodged a complaint at Mangadu police station.

On Wednesday night, Muthu called his kin and told them that he was standing near Vandalur on Outer Ring Road. They rushed to the spot and rescued him. During inquiry by the Mangadu police, he reportedly said it was his estranged wife who took him on a car from Pudupet to Tirumazhisai, where he was kidnapped and taken to Vellore on another car by two men. There, he was beaten up before being dropped near Vandalur.
When contacted, officials said the investigation was not yet over and added that it might be transferred to Chintadripet police station as the alleged kidnap happened there.
