Lalu Prasad Yadav gets bail, but still not released from jail!

The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted bail to former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Chaibasa treasury case involving the Rs 950 crore fodder scam.


During the year 1992-93, the matter of withdrawing Rs 33.67 crore from the Chaibasa treasury came to light when the RJD leader was the Chief Minister of Bihar.

Lalu Prasad Yadav will not be released despite being granted bail as he has been sentenced to 14 years in the Dumka treasury embezzlement case. The RJD leader and former Union Minister have been convicted in three cases related to the fodder scam.

Lalu Prasad Yadav is undergoing treatment at the Jharkhand chief Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) as he suffers from 'type 2' diabetes and high blood pressure. He is a patient of chronic kidney.

Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted in six cases of misappropriation of public money and sentenced separately in these cases. He has been in jail since 2017. Lalu Prasad Yadav was sentenced to jail for 3.5 years, 5 years, and 14 years in three fodder scam cases.

Lalu Prasad Yadav is constantly serving a jail sentence. He was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court in December 2013 in a fodder scam case, in which he was given half the sentence of 3.5 years imprisonment.

He will not be directly connected to the Bihar elections to be held in three phases starting October 28. Lalu Prasad Yadav has been banned from contesting elections and disqualified from Parliament.
