Over five quintals of poppy husk seized in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, Oct 9 (UNI) Over five quintals of poppy husk packed in as many as 19 bags have been recovered from a car and truck in Shahkot here, police said on Friday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Varindar Pal Singh told mediapersons that 200 kilograms of poppy husk packed in six bags and 325 kg in 13 bags were found loaded in a car and a truck.
The vehicles were intercepted at a Naka on Akbar Pur Kalan-Parjian Kalan road stretch, he said.The accused were arrested from the spot and have been identified as Sukhwant Singh, a resident of Kapurthala, Amarjit Singh, resident of Gurdaspur and Jabar and Arshad, residents of Jammu.
The contraband was brought from Srinagar, the accused told the police.
A case under sections 15C/61/85 (punishment for contravention in relation to poppy straw) of the NDPS Act has been registered.
