CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) unit of Haryana will gherao the residence of CM Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday at 11am to express their grouse against the three agriculture laws and the problems faced by farmers in the mandis.
According to the party, workers from all over the state would be coming to participate in the protest.
Confirming this, Sushil Gupta, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP and party’s in-charge in Haryana, said that for several weeks, farmers in Haryana's mandis are reaching with paddy, millet and other crops, but procurement is not being done. The procurement of crop arrivals is getting negligible. Farmers are being harassed for registering on the portal and in the name of gate passes. The government is refusing to buy the crop in the name of moisture content, he added.
While addressing the media on the issue at Chandigarh on Friday, Gupta also alleged that the farmers in Haryana are not getting MSP in all purchases that are being made resulting of which farmers are being forced to sell their crops to private agencies at a paltry price.
He said that the government has fixed the MSP of Jiri at Rs 1,888 but the farmer is not getting Rs 1,700 as well. Similarly, MSP of Rs 5,515 of cotton is fixed but the farmer is forced to sell cotton for Rs 3,700.
Bajra's MSP is fixed at Rs 2,150 but farmers are being forced to sell it for Rs 1,250 each. The RS MP said that the intention of the government has been exposed as to why there was no provision for giving minimum support price and violation of these laws.
