Three booked for seeking Rs 1cr to take back rape case

Gurgaon: A woman and two of her associates were booked for allegedly blackmailing a retired police officer.
According to the police, the woman in August last year had filed a rape case against the inspector, who was posted at Sadar police station, in Jind. Following which he was arrested and sent to jail. While the inspector was in prison (for three months, after which he got bail), the complainant along with her two associates called up the cop’s family members and tried to strike a deal. She asked them to pay Rs 1 crore in exchange of which she would withdraw her case.
The family members had recorded the conversation and submitted the audio tape to the Jind police six months back. After checking the authenticity of the recording, Jind police forwarded the case to Gurgaon police on Wednesday. A case was registered against the woman and two others under Section 384 (extortion) of the IPC at Sadar police station on Thursday.
The officer, who retired a few days ago, was arrested last year as the woman, a resident of Mohanagar in Jind, alleged that in November 2017 she had approached the police to file a case against her husband. “On the pretext of helping me find a job, he offered me a lift in his car, took me to an isolated place where he gave me a sedative-laced drink, raped me and also recorded the act,” the woman had told in her complaint filed at women police station in Jind.
“Family members recorded the conversation where she asked for Rs 1 crore. We found out that woman had registered multiple rape cases against different people in past and in most of the cases turned hostile in court,” said Satpal Yadav, the former cop’s lawyer.
