BATHINDA: A 33-year-old man, who was under depression after the death of his wife, committed suicide after killing his three minor children on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at Hamirgarh village in Bathinda district.
A suicide note was found, in which Beant Singh wrote that he was upset over his wife’s untimely demise. His wife died of cancer some months ago. He also stated that he did want to leave his children at the mercy of others. He said he had tried strangling his daughters earlier too, but they had survived. His belongings, he said, should be sold and the money thus earned should be donated to the village gurdwara.
All four bodies, Beant’s, of his son (7) and daughters (3 and 1), were found hanging in his one room dwelling. Beant was a landless farmer and had spent all his earnings on the treatment of his wife. He lived in penury and used to do odd jobs now, said a villager.
Bhagta station house officer (SHO) inspector Amanpal Singh Virk said, “A murder case has been registered against Beant Singh, even though he too committed suicide and legal formalities under section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) have been performed.”
