KANPUR: A 23-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped after being taken to a hotel over the pretext of a birthday party in the city. The incident which took place on Tuesday, came to light on Wednesday after the survivor lodged an FIR against the accused at Barra police station. On Thursday, the police arrested two persons in the case.
In her complaint, the survivor alleged that her neighbouring friend, daughter of a sub-inspector of police, on Tuesday visited her house and invited her to a hotel to celebrate her brother’s birthday party, police said.
When she reached the hotel, her friend’s brother Ashish and latter’s friend Abhishek were already there in the room. The girl claimed that the three of them had a chat with her after which they offered her soft drink.
“It is alleged that as soon as she consumed soft drink, she lost consciousness. Later, when she regained consciousness, she realised that she was raped,” said the police.
The girl left the hotel and later reached her home, but her family instead scolded her and refused to give her entry into the house.
Peeved over the behaviour of her family members, she then went to a nearby railway crossing with an intention to commit suicide. “However, she was saved by one of her friends as she had apprised him about the whole issue. Sensing trouble, the girl’s friend rushed to the spot and pacified her. They then approached Barra police. The police thereafter recorded her statement and subsequently sent her for medical examination.
The girl used to work in Delhi and had recently returned home, said police further. The survivor has alleged that the entire incident was preplanned by her friend, who is a daughter of a sub-inspector posted in Orai, Jalaun.
Following a complaint by the girl, the two accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, police said and added, “With the help of E-surveillance, we have managed to nab them.”
Inspector Barra Harmeet Singh said, “The accused Ashish and Abhishek have been arrested. We would initiate action against the girl who had lured the survivor, after recording her statement. A case has been registered against the accused.”
