MANGALURU: A 10-year-old boy sustained injuries after he was bitten by a python on Wednesday. The victim who is out of danger has been identified as Sankalp G Pai, a class V student at Canara Primary School, Urva.
His father Gopalkrishna Pai, a bakery owner told TOI, Sankalp visits the Urvi Krishna Math located near the house in Mannagudda to light lamps on this auspicious month. Like every day, he left home at around 7pm and just before entering the place of worship, there is a stormwater drain that one has to cross.
The mesh on top of it was broken. “My son had not seen the snake and when crossing mesh and the python caught hold of his leg. He tried to save himself by trying to push it with another leg. After a struggle for about five minutes, and after biting him on his right leg, it returned to the drain. A snake rescuer was called and he found the nine feet python in the drain. It was rescued and released in the wild,” he said.
Soon after freeing himself from the snake, the boy told everyone in the neighbourhood that there was a snake near the drain and asked people to be careful. He had not realised that it had bitten him. When his father noticed blood oozing out from his leg, Sankalp was rushed to a doctor.
