UDUPI: Dr T M A Pai Hospital on Thursday announced it has reached a significant milestone of conducting successful deliveries of pregnant women suffering from Covid-19.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has conducted 50 deliveries from May 27 to October 3 with the 50th delivery taking place on October 3, Dr Shashikiran Umakanth, medical superintendent, Dr T M A Pai hospital said.
With recent studies showing the risk of Covid-19 infections in new-born babies, the hospital took stringent measures to make sure that the mother and baby are healthy and are coronavirus free.
Since Covid-19 took over the entire world, the hospital has helped deliver 50 perfectly healthy babies without any complications. The Covid times need additional efforts when it comes to ensuring that the mother and the child are safe, he said.
Dr Shashikala K Bhat, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, said, “All the deliveries were uneventful. The department of paediatrics is looking after the new-born babies. Mothers and new-born babies are given special care in separate sections to ensure the safety of the newborn.” Dr Shashikala said. “We also made sure that patients do not face any Covid19 complications that can potentially impact health of mother and the child,” she added.
Dr Shashikiran said, “The doctors and the staff have conducted all deliveries and surgeries with strict infection control precautions and patient care protocols.
