Bengaluru ISIS module: NIA arrests two for radicalising youth

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a business analyst working at a Chennai bank and a rice merchant from Bengaluru for allegedly radicalising members of a Bengaluru-based ISIS module and raising funds for facilitating the travel of Muslim youths from India to Syria.
Ahamed Abdul Cader, 40, and Irfan Nasir, 33, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the case.
The case was registered by the agency on September 19 after the arrest of a Bengaluru-based accused, Abdur Rahman alias Dr Brave.
Initial investigation led to the busting of a module and it was found that Cader and Nasir along with their associates were members of Hizb-ur-Tehrir, and had formed a group called ‘Quran Circle’ for radicalisation of Muslim youths in Bengaluru. The group also funded the visit of some youths to conflict zones in Syria to assist ISIS terrorists.
The accused have been booked under various sections of UAPA and IPC for their affiliation with ISIS, radicalising and motivating Muslim youths to join the terror group and raising funds to facilitate their travel to Syria.
The NIA on Thursday said that Cader, Nasir and their associates arranged funds through donations and own sources for the visit of accused Abdur Rahman and other Muslim youths from Bengaluru to Syria to join ISIS.
Two of these youths were killed in Syria, it added.
Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused in Gurupana Palaya and Frazer Town in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
"During the searches, incriminating material and electronic devices were seized," the agency said.
Both the arrested men were produced before the special NIA court in Bengaluru and were sent to 10-day NIA custody.
