MUMBAI: The special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court has allowed alleged drug peddler Abdel Parihar’s plea to appear for his architecture exams via Google Meet from jail on Thursday. His father was also granted permission to hand over study material to him in Taloja jail. Parihar’s bail plea was rejected by Bombay HC on Wednesday.
The plea submitted by advocate Alisha Parekh said that Parihar was pursuing a bachelor’s in architecture and was to appear for the 10th semester exams on Thursday. The plea said that the online exams were scheduled from 2 pm to 3.30 pm. “The examination is before the Final Jury (external) and will be conducted online on Google Meet. This is the last semester,” the plea said. It further said that if Parihar is denied permission, his career would be affected. The plea requested the court to direct jail authorities to produce him before the court so that his examination could be conducted there.
Special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande urged the court to allow Parihar to appear for his examination only through jail. Special judge GB Gurao said that although due to the Cpandemic, it was not possible to bring Parihar to court, permission could be given for him to appear for the online exam through jail. “Jail superintendent of Taloja Central Prison is hereby directed to permit the applicant to appear for his examination. The jail superintendent has been directed to make necessary arrangements and provide facility for online examination,” the judge said.
